NMT Projects has been awarded transport of one of the largest crawler cranes, from Germany to Portugal.
Pre-carriage has been performed by a large number of different types of trailers from the factory to the transhipment place in Rotterdam. Due to many oversized/overweight units, a private/police escort was a necessity. At Rotterdam, all units exceeding 50 Tons unit weight were loaded by vessel's gear and remainder of cargo by shore gear.
Once the vessel arrived at Sines, it became obvious that discharging operation will be impossible due to adverse weather circumstances and heavy swell beating at the discharging quay. As weather forecast was predicting that this situation will continue for, at least, next 4-6 days, quickly a decision was taken to divert the vessel to an alternative port. Simultaneously, also the on-carriage had to be completely rearranged and synchronized with the very strict delivery schedule of parts at the Sines refinery. This has been achieved in a smooth manner based on direct input from our own representative on the spot fully interacting with very helpful Portugese Agency. Once vessel safely berthed in Setubal we started with discharge operations by vessel own cranes direct onto trailers. Once discharging and customs clearance was completed finally all pieces were transported and delivered within 2 days after discharging to Refinery in Sines. NMT controlled and monitored the complete project from loading port till delivered site. |
